These animals with a doll face, phlegmatic character and gorgeous plush fur are created for those who have always wanted to get a Persian cat, but could not afford the constant and troublesome care for it. In character, exotic cats (Exoticcat) are similar to Persians. They are very trusting, affectionate and phlegmatic. They like to run and play, especially in childhood, but sleep more than other cats.

History of the breed

In 1966, a new breed standard for the Exotic Shorthair cat was developed, which was completely identical to the Persian standard except for the characteristics of the coat. Representatives of the Burmese breed and the Russian Blue cat were used in selection. In the 1980s, crossbreeding with short-haired breeds was stopped, and further breeding involved only Persians.

Initially it was not planned to breed such a cat, breeders only wanted to bring variety to the standard American Shorthair. For this purpose was chosen silver Persian. Thus, breeders sought to get new colors and green eyes. However, typical Persian kittens were born - thick-faced, snub-nosed, teddy bear-like.

Care

Exotic cats do not need any special care. Brush them once a week and bathe them during shedding and before exhibition. Exotas have the same health problems as Persians: their short noses make it difficult for them to breathe and their shortened tear ducts often cause mucus to accumulate in their eyes, which must be removed.

Breeding

The standard does not provide restrictions on the color of exotics. Crossbreeding is allowed only with Persian cats.
