Golden Retrievers were bred in Great Britain in the 19th century. They are cheerful and sociable dogs that try to perceive everything around them as a fun game. They are not aggressive at all and behave equally friendly both with the owner and with strangers.

Retrievers are very intelligent and contactable dogs, they lend themselves well to training and are happy to follow commands. Many dog breeders consider them to be ideal city pets that never cause problems for those around them. With the owner they are very obedient and are characterized by a balanced character.

Representatives of this breed absolutely cannot stand loneliness. If you let the dog run around the garden, it can simply lie down and wait for the owner to join in to entertain it.

History of the breed

According to the records of Lord Tweedmouth - the founder of the breed - tweed spaniels, Newfoundland water dogs and setters participated in the breeding of golden retrievers. Initially, its representatives were called straight-haired Golden Retrievers, but since 1911 the adjective was excluded from the name.

These dogs were bred as assistant hunters in swampy areas. Such entertainment was considered a privilege of the nobility, so the first golden retrievers belonged exclusively to aristocrats. Often the birds after the shot fell into dense swampy thickets,

in which a man did not want to climb, that's when he was helped by clever friend dogs, opportunistic game.

Nowadays, Golden Retrievers also participate in field competitions. Dog breeders still appreciate their excellent hunting qualities.

Training

Golden Retriever owners need to consider that they are dealing with hunting dogs. Their training is both more difficult and easier than other breeds.

Golden Retrievers are very obedient, but only with proper training. During walks, trained dogs do not need to give the command “Near”, they should already know that they should always go near the owner and in no case run around the field if he does not let go. Improper education of the pet when participating in hunting can lead to the fact that he will fall under a stray bullet, so many owners prefer to attend special training classes with their dogs.

Some people consider this breed to be more capricious than other retrievers, but in fact, the dogs are just very emotional. During endurance training, the owner should try to make sure that the pet does not feel rejected or panic at the thought of being left behind. Golden Retrievers are much more accepting of rewards than punishments.

At home, young pets are often noisy and restless. Left alone, they begin to chew and gnaw everything in sight. However, over time, the character becomes calmer, the main thing is to regularly train the Golden Retriever so that he can spend the accumulated energy.

During walks, Golden Retrievers most enjoy swimming, lying on the ground, and fetch toys. If they find something they really like, they can wear it for days.

Character

The Golden Retriever is eager to share every spare moment with his master. He will try to comfort if a person is sad, and goes crazy with happiness when the household is happy. Pets are good at sensing the mood of others, so they will behave calmly if the owner does not want to go for a walk, or run around with a gleeful bark when the owner wants to play.

Like many large, calm dogs, the Golden Retriever has a slightly slower reaction time. If the owner throws a toy too quickly when playing with the puppy, he may not even notice it. Over time, as he gets used to the game, he becomes more attentive.
