Japanese Bobtail have choleric temperament: they are absolute extroverts, sociable, affectionate, do not like loneliness, prone to mood swings. These cats love to jump and play. They have a soft low voice, love to "talk", are attached mainly to one member of the family.

History of the breed

The breed appeared in Japan in XVI-XVII centuries. For the first time in Europe about unusual Japanese short-tailed kitties became known from the book of the German traveler and naturalist Engelbert Kempfer "History of Japan", published in the early XVIII century. In 1968 Japanese bobtails were brought to the United States, and in 1976 the breed was officially registered and recognized by the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA).

Have you seen the Japanese statues of cats with their feet up? They are called maneki neko ("calling, inviting cat"). In Japan, they are usually displayed in store and restaurant windows. A cat with a raised proga paw attracts money and good luck, and with a raised left paw attracts customers. According to Japanese belief, all the evil power of cats is contained in their tails. That is why short-tailed creatures have become so popular in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Care

Japanese Bobtails are a short-haired breed of cat, no special care is required. Brushing once a week, regular claw clipping, full feed and, of course, love - that's all they need. This is a healthy breed, with proper care does not tend to any diseases. Genetic diseases in bobtails are also not identified.

Breeding

The color of Japanese bobtails can be any, but the most common is tortoiseshell. The only option, unacceptable according to the standard, is considered a point color, as well as tickeyed tabby. The gene responsible for the shape of the tail is recessive in these cats, so crossing with a long-tailed partner will not produce short-tailed kittens in the first generation.
