It is believed that Chinas were brought to Japan from China in 732 as a gift to the Japanese Emperor. These amazing dogs served as a sacred talisman of the emperor and the aristocracy, they were legendary and considered favorites of the gods. In the XIX century, with the beginning of international trade, small Japanese Chinas began to be exported to Great Britain and the USA. Until the First World War, the number of these dogs was significant, but then their numbers rapidly declined. Improper breeding of Chinas led to a significant reduction in size (an adult dog weighed no more than 1.5 kg) and health problems. However, thanks to the efforts of breed enthusiasts, dogs from American and British kennels were crossed, the offspring of which took the best qualities from both lines.

They are very friendly and cheerful dogs, able to get along with everyone, including other pets. Movable and alert, they can sometimes be overly fussy and resentful. Prefer active but not very strenuous exercise. Their innate intelligence helps these little ones quickly grasp new things. Japanese chinas are one of the few dogs that simply adore their owner. They are considered to be one of the most “sensitive” dogs, able to fully adjust to the mood and lifestyle of the family. A distinctive feature of small chinas is a cat-like jumping ability. Moreover, they even lick their fur like cats.

The Japanese Chinas is a very clean room dog, which does not need long and active walks. Care for it will not be difficult even for a novice dog owner. It is enough to bathe representatives of this breed once a month and comb several times a week. The wool of Chinas is a bit shedding, but regular combing helps to maintain the ideal appearance of the doggy. It is necessary to monitor the condition of the eyes and ears of the Chinas, brush his teeth 2 or 3 times a week and trim his nails 1 or 2 times a month. You should teach your dog to do all of these things from puppyhood, so you won't have any problems caring for your little pet.

Neither hot nor cold

Due to the fact that Japanese Chinas have virtually no undercoat, they should only be taken outside in warm overalls in cool weather. In addition, the time spent outdoors at -15 °C should be significantly reduced. It is also necessary to be more attentive to the dogs during extreme heat: they tolerate it very badly.
