Slavic tribes have long hunted with strong birds of prey - falcons, golden eagles and hawks. This method of hunting antelopes, foxes, hares, wolves and feathered game is often mentioned in chronicles. Over time, the Slavs adopted many customs from the Tatars, who preferred to hunt with hounds.

Tatar Greyhounds turned out to be not quite suitable dogs for keeping in the harsh climate of northern Russia. Besides, they were mainly oriented to hunting in open spaces. To get game in dense forests with them was not very convenient. Therefore, in the XVI century, the Slavs began to breed a new breed - Russian Greyhounds.

Tatar Greyhounds began to cross with huskies. The benefit of such a decision was obvious. The resulting puppies ran much faster than huskies and perfectly withstood the cold climate of Russia.

Care

Russian hound puppies turn into a tall, graceful and beautiful dog only by the age of one and a half. During this time, owners should devote maximum free time to them. Many dog breeders even compare the care of puppies of this breed with the upbringing of a small child. So before buying a pet, owners should realize in advance all the responsibility that will fall on their shoulders. Then the upbringing of puppies will be much easier.

Hunting

During hunting, greyhounds are primarily guided by vision, which distinguishes them from other hunting dogs. Representatives of this breed run, proudly erect, and inspect the surroundings with a keen eye. The dogs are able to notice any movement even at a considerable distance. Having found the game, they do not miss it and catch up with it. At the same time they pursue silently, which is another distinctive feature of the breed.

It is noteworthy that after the chase the Greyhounds unmistakably return to the owner, even if they ran away very far. During normal walks, dogs can also run away from their owners for considerable distances, so they need to be watched.

The best hunter

Adult Russian Greyhounds have a fearless character, strength and amazing speed. All this makes them excellent assistants for hunters. They cope with their tasks better than many other breeds of dogs.

At first, Russian Greyhound puppies do not resemble a tall, aristocratic and elegant dog. But from the very first months they demonstrate a sharp mind and the ability to make independent decisions.

Representatives of this breed are very fond of socializing with the household, but they always try to keep with dignity and a little aloof. Above all, they are bright individuals who demand respect for themselves and will never obey their master servilely.

Nutrition

An important part of proper care for Greyhounds is feeding. The owner should pay special attention to this.

It is desirable to accustom the puppy to a certain diet. He should eat enough, after which the bowl is removed.

With the right diet, the dog will always be cheerful and active. Fresh meat, especially horse meat, fish, rice, oatmeal, buckwheat, eggs, vegetables and fruits are suitable for him. It is not recommended to give your dog small bones, lard, fatty pork, as well as some by-products: stomach, udder, kidneys and lungs. In addition, pets are forbidden sweets, beans, beans, cabbage, potatoes, lentils, peas and turnips.
