Devon ReXs are affectionate and energetic. Like other Rexes, they are "cat-like" in character. They are affectionate, agile and loyal to the owner.

History of the breed

The first Devon was discovered in 1960. The Cox family found a cat with offspring not far from their house, in which among the kittens was a black baby with short curly hair. It was initially thought that the curl was due to the presence of Cornish Rex genes, but it later became clear that it was an original mutation.

Care

Devon Rexes are fairly unpretentious. Despite the small amount of hair, representatives of the breed shed insignificantly and do not need regular combing. Balanced nutrition, care, love and regular claw clipping - all they need.

Devons have dog and monkey behaviour. They can jump quite high and fit in tight places. They can be taught to do "doggy" tricks, such as fetching objects. They like to sit on their owner's neck or shoulder.

Breeding

Devons have a different gene for curls than other Rexes. When crossing cats with other "curly" breeds, the offspring without curls are obtained. For this reason, British Shorthair and American Shorthair cats are used in breeding this breed.
