These cats are quite harmoniously built. However, the Oriental Shorthair's ears look gigantic in comparison to their refined build. Oriental cats are very friendly, sociable and curious. They are smart, intelligent, like to participate in everything that happens in the house, calmly tolerate traveling, but do not tolerate loneliness.

History of the breed

At the end of XIX century in London from Thailand brought oriental cats of Siamese and solid colors. English felinologists considered solid colors as a deviation from the Siamese breed standard. However, work on breeding began in America, where in 1956 the first kitten of solid chocolate color appeared.

In 1974 the even white color was recognized, the rest of solids were accepted in the late 1970s.

Care

Oriental Shorthair have a very short, smooth coat, which does not need to be combed out - it is enough to run a damp hand over it once every two weeks to remove dust and dead hairs. Pets should regularly trim their claws. In nutrition, these animals are unpretentious. Representatives of the breed are not prone to genetic diseases.

Breeding

Colors recognized by the standard: solid (blue, gray, black, brown, red, cream and chocolate), tabby (ticked, spotted, tiger and marbled), tortoiseshell, smoky and bicolor are also acceptable. White color is considered special: it must be pure, without yellowing. Defects are considered obvious deformations of the tail - creases, hooks, immobility, as well as white spots in those colors where they are not provided.
