They are large, fluffy cats with a very expressive gaze. In appearance and character, they are much like the Ragdolls, from which they originate. Cats of this breed are active, but not excessively, they practically do not show hunting instinct. They are sociable, patient and very loyal. Ragamuffin cat is not recommended to leave alone for a long time - too attached to you cat can get bored.

History of the breed

The slang word "Ragamuffin" means "ragamuffin", "homeless". Of course, the author of the breed did not expect to call her luxurious creatures that! Enterprising breeder of ragdolls Ann Baker in search of new colors dared to cross her pedigree cats with mongrels. The resulting variegated creatures were called "cherubs" and Baker asserted the right to breed and distribute the breed under this name. Baker's excessive pragmatism
caused dissatisfaction of other breeders, and soon it was proposed to separate cats derived from a mixture of regdolls and pedigree "street ragamuffin" in a separate breed "Ragamuffin". The name caught on, the new breed was met with enthusiasm at shows, and in 2003 it was recognized as an independent breed.

A distinctive feature of the breed is a varied color range, including almost all colors.

Care

The Ragamuffin's long coat requires regular combing, especially during the shedding season. Because they are clean and lick actively, they should be given special pastes to prevent hairballs from forming in the stomach. It is also important to keep an eye on the coat in terms of preventing hairballs. The Ragamuffin is in good health, but kittens must have all necessary vaccinations before three months of age.

Despite its large size by feline standards, the Ragamuffin is a surprisingly good-natured and peaceful creature. The cat almost never releases its claws, even if it is inconvenienced, so it often suffers in families where there are small children or unruly pets.

Breeding

At present, it is almost impossible to buy a Ragamuffin kitten in Russia and the CIS countries, since special catteries have not yet been created.
