Ragdolls have somewhat reduced muscle tone, so they do not group themselves and land on their feet when falling (ragdoll means "rag doll"). This also affects the sensitivity threshold: the breed has a lower sensitivity threshold than other cats. In addition, ragdolls have a very calm and patient character, somewhat similar to the temperament of Persians.

History of the breed

According to legend, the ancestor of the breed was a cat that was hit by a car. After the trauma she had a weakened muscle tone, which she passed on to her offspring. Breeders only fixed this trait. The breed was developed by breeder Ann Baker in the 1960s as a result of crossing Persian-Angora and Burmese cats. Ragdolls were registered in California in 1965.

Care

Ragdolls have semi-long coats that are not as troublesome to maintain as Persians, but still require daily brushing. They do not like water and should be washed only when necessary. This is a very healthy breed, it has no genetic predisposition to any disease.

Ragdolls are favorites of children. Thanks to their nonchalance, they allow you to hug and kiss them, swaddle them, dress them up and generally do anything. Ragdolls are happy to play, but do not impose and do not require constant attention.

Breeding

At birth, kittens are completely white, with spots coming through slowly. You have to wait about two years to see the true color. Acceptable colors of markings in Ragdolls: sil (black), blue, purple and chocolate. Variants of their location: color point (dark spots on the paws, tail and ears), mitted (white bib, jaw, "gloves" on the front paws, "boots" - on the back) and bicolor, in which the ears, tail and "mask" are dark, the body is lighter, and the belly, "collar" and paws are white. Crossbreeding of Ragdolls with cats of other breeds is prohibited by the standard.
