History of the breed

The breed's homeland is Siam (modern Thailand). These animals lived in temples and royal families. The first Siamese were brought to Europe in 1884 by the English Consul, to whom they were presented by the King of Siam. In 1902, the first standard was approved, but due to excessive genetic dilution of the breed, Siamese cats almost ceased to meet it. Modern representatives, bred after the breed was restored, look thinner compared to their predecessors.

It should be noted that those cats, which in Russia are traditionally called Siamese, actually belong to the Thai breed. As a result of spontaneous crossbreeding, they lost their characteristic oriental appearance and ceased to belong to the Siamese. Subsequently, the Thai breed was bred, which has nothing in common with the Siamese, except for the point color.

Care

Since Siams are a cross between short-haired and extra-short-haired cats, they are easy to care for. They should be combed once a week or even less frequently. Bathe them as needed. The presence of a scratching post in the house is mandatory. Siams - a fairly healthy breed, among congenital defects they meet only squinting.

Breeding

At present, a large number of varieties of Siamese cats by coat color are recorded. Among them there are individuals with monochrome (black, blue, purple, red, cream, etc.) markings, as well as with various tortoiseshell, marbled and tabby spots.
