Of all the Sphynx species, the St. Petersburg, or Peterbald, is the most graceful. It looks more like an oriental cat than other sphinxes. The Peterbald is a companion cat, it is sociable and does not like to walk by itself. Due to the presence of siamo-oriental breeds in the pedigree of cats, the Peterbold is more active compared to the Don Sphynx. However, its character retains all the traits inherent in the ancestors of other breeds: lack of aggression, sociability and loveability.

History of the breed

Peterbalds were bred in 1994 and are the result of crossing of Don Sphynxes with short-haired cats of different breeds of the Eastern Siamo-Ori-Oental group. For the first time the breed was officially recognized by the Breeding Felinological Federation in 1996.

Care

Care for Peterbalds is the same as for Don Sphynxes: they like warmth, are calm to water and need claw trimming. This is a healthy breed, not prone to hereditary diseases.

A peculiarity of sphinxes is that they have a skin lubricant. Its accumulation can be seen in the ear flaps and around the claws. This is a protective property of the body from the effects of the environment. To clean the animal from pollution, it is necessary to wipe the skin with a damp sponge.

Breeding

The breed standard allows crossbreeding with Don sphinxes and representatives of the siamo-oriental group. Peterbol-da kittens are born with a soft, short coat, which disappears with age.
