The Tonkinese is the result of crossing the Siamese with the American standard Burmese. It has smoother features than the Siamese and a more graceful build than the Burmese. The Tonkin cat inherited much of its character from the Siamese, but it is not so "talkative". As for the famous Siamese curiosity, mobility and activity, they remained.

History of the breed

In the 1950s, work on breeding new breeds was in full swing. At this time, the Tonkin breed appeared. Its homeland is considered to be Canada, and it was in the Canadian Cat Fanciers Association that the Tonkinese was first recognized. Initially, the breeder gave it the name - Golden Siamese, Tonkinese it became later. Probably at that time it was customary to name Oriental cats in honor of oriental countries, as Tonkin is a region of Vietnam.

Care

Care for the Tonkinese is not difficult: comb the pet once every one or two weeks, trim his claws. The diet should be balanced. Remember that this animal just needs your love and care.

Breeding

The color of Tonkin cats is called mink (mink). It can be brown, chocolate, beige (fawn), blue and purple. The markings are always much darker than the main color. Reasons for disqualification - defects in the tail structure (hooks, creases, etc.), eye color other than aquamarine, white marks on the coat.

It is interesting that in one litter of Tonkin cats are born babies of color mink (about half), a quarter of them get Siamese color, and another quarter - color-point. According to the standard, only "mink" Tonkinese are considered participants of exhibitions and the pride of the breed, the rest become only wonderful pets.
